What children learn in Year 4 science
Year 4 science covers states of matter, sound, electricity, living things and their habitats, and teeth and digestion. Children group materials into solids, liquids and gases and begin to explain changes of state and the water cycle.
In electricity, they build simple series circuits and test which materials are conductors and which are insulators.
Key goals for Year 4 include:
- group materials into solids, liquids and gases
- recognise common conductors and insulators
- know that metals are good conductors
US equivalent: Year 4 pupils are about the age of Grade 3. Each topic shows the closest Common Core standard.
