Playing Copy with precision

Each card shows an original, an arrow and a copy. Sort it into Exact copy or Changed copy. Check every letter, word and punctuation mark across three rounds.

What this game practises

Year 5 handwriting aims for increasing fluency and legibility while the writer retains control over details. Copy with precision adds quantities, dates, titles and punctuation to the observation task. Reversing digits in a time or omitting part of a quantity can alter a message substantially. The game checks displayed copies; it does not measure writing speed, pencil movements or the appearance of a handwritten page. Compare 7.05 pm with 7.50 pm before explaining why the two times cannot be treated as equivalent copies. Then write a short real reminder by hand and ask another person to read it back. Check the important details as well as overall neatness. Discuss when a quick personal note is sufficient and when another reader needs a particularly clear final version.

Progress and trying again

The normal game controls let children finish, save stars on this device and play again. A previous best result is kept when a later attempt scores less. Matching games count incorrect pairs; ordering games score the first check of each round; sorting games give another chance after a mistake. Take time to talk about a choice rather than racing.
