What children learn in Year 3 Spanish

Spanish is the second most taught language in English primary schools. In Year 3, children learn greetings, how to ask and say how they are, their name and the colours, mostly through songs, games and speaking.

They notice that Spanish is spelled the way it sounds, and that questions start with an upside-down question mark.

Key goals for Year 3 include:

  • greet people at different times of day in Spanish
  • ask how someone is and answer
  • name the main colours in Spanish

US equivalent: Year 3 pupils are about the age of Grade 2. Each topic shows the closest Common Core standard.
