What children learn in Year 3 French
Languages are taught in Key Stage 2, from Year 3 to Year 6. Most English primary schools teach French. In Year 3, children learn greetings, colours and simple classroom phrases, and practise listening and speaking through songs and games.
They begin to link the spelling, sound and meaning of words.
Key goals for Year 3 include:
- greet people and say goodbye in French
- ask how someone is and answer
- name the main colours in French
US equivalent: Year 3 pupils are about the age of Grade 2. Each topic shows the closest Common Core standard.
