Playing Punctuation copy check

Each card shows an original, an arrow and a copy. Sort it into Exact copy or Changed copy. Check every letter, word and punctuation mark across three rounds.

What this game practises

Year 4 handwriting should become more consistent and legible while children retain accurate spelling and punctuation. Punctuation copy check treats a complete message as the unit to preserve. A missing apostrophe, an omitted word or a lost speech mark may change meaning even when the letters look tidy. The screen checks those details, while physical joining and spacing need to be observed on paper. Compare the girls’ coats with the girl’s coats and explain why moving an apostrophe can change the number of owners. Then copy a short phrase by hand, leaving spaces clear enough for a reader to identify each word. Recheck the marks as well as the letter shapes, using the style and joining conventions taught at school.

Progress and trying again

The normal game controls let children finish, save stars on this device and play again. A previous best result is kept when a later attempt scores less. Matching games count incorrect pairs; ordering games score the first check of each round; sorting games give another chance after a mistake. Take time to talk about a choice rather than racing.
