Playing Copy every detail
Each card shows an original, an arrow and a copy. Sort it into Exact copy or Changed copy. Check every letter, word and punctuation mark across three rounds.
What this game practises
Year 3 handwriting builds the joining strokes and consistency needed for fluent, legible writing. Copy every detail provides a supporting observation task: capitals, omitted words, letter order and punctuation must survive a copy. The typed models deliberately use the same display font, so the game is about accuracy rather than deciding which physical handwriting style is correct. Compare The gate is shut. with The gate is shut and identify the missing full stop. Then copy a short sentence on paper, leaving clear spaces and following the joins taught at school. Ask a reader to check that the intended words and marks can be recognised. A neat-looking copy can still contain a meaningful omission.
Progress and trying again
The normal game controls let children finish, save stars on this device and play again. A previous best result is kept when a later attempt scores less. Matching games count incorrect pairs; ordering games score the first check of each round; sorting games give another chance after a mistake. Take time to talk about a choice rather than racing.
