Hear it, read it

Listen to a word, then find its written partner.

For parents and teachers

Playing Hear it, read it

Tap a Listen card to hear a whole word. Then choose the matching written word. Find all six pairs. You can listen again, and there is no timer.

What this game practises

This game connects a familiar spoken word with its written form. Read the letters from left to right before choosing. The six pairs are drawn from a small bank of short words; it supports selected word-reading practice alongside the phonics sequence taught at school.

Speech uses the approved, static AI-generated British-English marin whole-word recordings. Tap a card to hear its word; audio never starts automatically. These are whole words, not isolated phonemes. No live AI service is used during play.

Progress and trying again

The normal game controls let children finish, save stars on this device and play again. A previous best result is kept when a later attempt scores less. Matching games count incorrect pairs; ordering games score the first check of each round; sorting games give another chance after a mistake. Take time to talk about a choice rather than racing.
