What children learn in Year 5 computing

In Year 5, children learn how computer networks and the internet work, and how they provide services such as the World Wide Web and email.

They also learn to recognise acceptable and unacceptable behaviour online and the different ways to report concerns.

Key goals for Year 5 include:

  • explain the difference between the internet and the web
  • name the parts of a network
  • name several ways to report a worry online

US equivalent: Year 5 pupils are about the age of Grade 4. Each topic shows the closest Common Core standard.
